It's only rock 'n' roll...

Something I haven't done for a long time is live music photography. My local college hold an event once a month and as I've shot the annual pantomime for the last two years, they invited me along as their official photog.

I have to say it's challenging for a number of reasons. My camera gets grumpy in low light so it's maxed out ISO and shoot two stops under just to get a fighting chance of a halfway decent shutter speed/aperture combo. Plus, due to the vagaries of the venue, there's no front lighting at all.

Still, loads of fun to do even with the shedloads of work in post.

Enjoy and comment as you see fit.

It's only rock n roll and I like it! Great shots! I really like 3 and on 4 I like the green light and how large that guitar looks but the mic is very distracting. I'd be tempted to crop... Super photos and enjoy while working!

Thanks Brenda :D

I was surprised at the quality of the musicianship. It's great to see a bunch of youngsters really dedicated to their art.

Hmm, I think you're right (gets out the crop tool...)

I just wish I had more light to work with. There's simply no room to get a couple of T-bars in or a box truss on a ground support rig. I have, however, persuaded the event's LD to bring a couple of extra moving lights for next time and use them to bounce off the roof. Might give me a couple of additional stops to work with.

Thanks for the comments :D
