Very nice and interesting shots Tom. Hope you are sending the image off for an ID.
My best guess from looking it up would be either Red-humped Oakworm (Symmerista canicosta) or Orange-humped Mapleworm (Symmerista leucitys), but my reference doesn't give TX as a known location. However, all the color characteristics for your Cat are apparent for these two. Richard

Per bugguide: Differentiating Symmerista sorta
S. canicosta and S. albifrons are indistinguishable as caterpillars, both should have 5 black stripes on the dorsum (back). S. leucitys has 3 black stripes. The fun part is that S. canicosta/albifrons have 3 black stripes until the last instar.
