Hi folks. This is my first post. I have been enjoying the site for some time now and decided to test the waters. I welcome any comments and suggestions to improve my photos.

prairie dog pups on the first day of spring (photos above taken Apr. 24)
Great prairie dog shots!
I like your pussywillow photo, though would prefer background to be a bit more out of focus. What camera and settings are you using? Welcome to the forum. As you already know, you can learn a lot here, as well as make friends and have fun.
Hi wookie, and welcome. If this set is a sample of things to come, bring it on.

Thanks for the warm welcome. My camera is a Samsung WB750 and the pussywillow shot was F-3.2, 1/750 sec and ISO 100. The focal length (35mm equiv) was 24mm.

Welcome Wookie! Glad you decided to test the waters. The 1st photo is not "overwhelming" (probably because the details are farther away) but really like the others. Keep shooting and posting! Glad you joined.
Good point Penny and thank you. Composition is what I am trying to improve ... it definately is my weakest area.
Thanks wookie. A great beginning. Keep sharing.
[quote=wookie] I enjoyed your snow pictures, Wookie. I like to set my camera to +1 or more on the exposure. The camera sees the bright snow and stops down to make the snow grey and kind of dirty looking. Slight over exposure will whiten the snow. Also I often work with my white balance. The snow often adds a blue tint. Sometimes the blue is nice art. But if you want white snow you may need to adjust that. David
Thanks to everyone for your replies ... much appreciated. Regarding EV/white balance, winter landscapes bedevil me lol. I have experimented with EV (lowering it for more dramatic sunsets etc.) but the sky seems to wash out if I raise it on a sunny day. I have had some luck with a custom white balance but that only lasts until the light changes. I am moving to a Canon T3i soon so hopefully shooting in RAW will help this. I did a quick correction using GIMP (I'm not very skilled at PP but I am learning). Thanks David for pointing this out ... this is why I decided to join your site. You seem to support each other and offer genuine suggestions to help. My kind of a community.
