I have to rely on AF because it works better at focusing than my eyes do. That said, I have tried the kit lens 18-55mm and I also bought the 55-200mm. Then I decided I needed a prime lens. My old film Minolta had a 55mm f/1.7 that did a wonderful job. So I went with the 35mm since with my Nikon 5100 that is equal to a 50mm with a full frame camera. Here are a few of my flowers using the 35mm.

Very nice. I love to take pix of flowers also. I too have this lens and for the price it is real winner. Enjoy!

Beautiful photos, I bought a Tokina 35mm lens last year and absolutely love it for close up shots.

I have that lens Susie, it is truly a little jewel. It is obvious that you know how to use it. Your pictures are perfect, so nice to see someone get the whole flower in focus :D

Thanks to all of you for the quick comments. I struggle to get flowers in focus. It seems there's always a breeze blowing so they don't sit still for me. I never know if I have a good clear focus until I get it on the computer and see it enlarged.
