Raining and the bugs are not holding still

I have a lot more practicing to do on bugs but here are todays efforts

Insect about 2mm cant find it in my key.

i like the bug but i dont recognize it. is this cropped? if so you still need to get closer.good job.tom

The insect is 2mm long, the camera with a 100mm macro was at minimum focusing distance (1:1) and was cropped severely I do not have tubes, (the person I borrow them from is not around today). But you are right. Someting this small needs something better than 1:1

i usually have just the opposite problem,i have tubes on and find a butterfly or large bug and i cant get it all in the shot. i don't like to take my tubes off in the field and i don't usually have a baggie to put them it.tom

Thanks Douglass. I was using a modified flip flash bracket for the first time. I cut part of the armature near the flash and bent it so the flash was pointing down 45 degrees. Then I put a 6 inch diffuser on the flash. I may add an extender of about 3 inches to move the diffuser forward. That may get rid of the shadow.
