Decided to take some images with the little Canon but in the bottom right hand corner of the monitor there is an icon that shows a camera shake hand and also the letter 'T'.
Does anyone know what the 'T' means? Can't find the info. in the manual.
Thanks

I have an S1 IS. The "T" is suggesting use of a tripod. I don't think it's the manual; a Canon TechRep told me.
Not on the S5IS, just checked. The 'tripod' factor sounds logical though. Does it go away with higher shutter speed and better lighting? Or, is it specific to one mode and not another?

I wonder if it may be warning you that it will be a TIME exposure, or to use a tripod? Are your hand-held shots blurred when taking them while that 'T' is showing?
I have put the camera on all settings, even auto, and I still see the jiggling hand and 'T'. When I look thru the monitor, the picture seems okay. Want to use this camera for travelling and do want to get good images. Tks. LR
Thanks for your reply.
I am a newby as you can tell. Looked under the menu mode and started pressing buttons. Looks like under the converter, if I press TC-DC58B, and also under the WC-DC58A, I get the jiggly hand and T, but when I press 'off', I only get the jiggly hand. I don't even know what the converter is. Can you help?

When you went through the menu you turned on the function for an external Tele-converter (TC-DC58B) that you can buy separately. The camera does not auto-detect this so you have to go back into the menu and switch it off. The "jiggly hand + T" lets you know the camera "thinks" there's one attached!
The "TC" stands for a x1.5 teleconverter. The WC is for a Wide angle converter, and I believe there was also a close up/macro option available. All three had to be attached to a separate adapter before use on the camera. Hope this helps :-)
You are amazing - that is exactly what my problem was!!!
Thanks so much
