I posted this photo on Flickr. Much to my amazement I received a lot of views and a few favorites. My question is why is this compeling, a good picture , what makes this good or what are people seeing that I fail to notice. I used natural window lighting. spot metering on her eyes and needed very little pp in CaptureNX2 to get the look I thought was best. How could I have made this better or worse.

I don't see how you could make it better. It says, clearly, what you want to say. Changes can make it different... good or bad, but you will no longer have a portrait that so compellingly expresses your feelings.

Awesome portrait of a gorgeous woman!
You could change various aspects of this, poses, lighting, etc, but I don't think that any changes would make it better, just different!

Job very nicely done!!

Really nice portrait, I love it, but maybe, just maybe, try lifting the light a tad?? Please feel free to shut me up.

The face doesn't look excessively airbrushed (post processed), but very natural. People respond to that.

Great shot. Redheads are difficult to shoot, especially women with long hair. There is no true red in a redhead, just a thousand shades of orange, brown, blond, etc. I know, I am a male version. Then, there is the issue of her wearing red (which we redheads tend to do) and many reds clash with our hair. You have captured a very attractive redhead wearing a well balanced color of red (dress) and have done it very well. Your choice not to use a flash was absolutely correct....We redheads do not take to flash that well, because of our fair skin, freckles, etc. I'll end by again saying, Great Shot.

Jimmiesp You have captured her essence. Not pp it till you hide her naturel beauty is hidden. Nature is always better. The slightly soft focus lets her personal looks come to the fore.
