A Big Jumping Thing

A grasshopper of some sort, about about 7 cm long (3 inches) long. We have a fountain in the garden and this guy seemed to enjoy having a shower which is a bit dangerous as it is the favourite haunt of our resident Pied Butcher Birds who looooove grasshopper for lunch. But he hopped off unharmed after posing for his pic to be taken.

Pretty well camouflaged there on the pebbles. That's a big hopper

You are not wrong, its the biggest I have ever seen. But I spoke nicely to it so as to avoid being savaged, you can never tell what an enraged grasshopper will do.

Sitting quietly in the grass and reeds on an English Summer day, sounds like a recipe for frostbite! Yeah I know thats probably a little unfair as I have to admit, despite being addicted to the Australian heat, there is no more beautiful place than the English countryside in the warmer months. Hope you find your hopper.
