If you have the option of buy now or save for later ... what would you do
I have "enough" money to get the D7100 now, but I'd really like to own the D800E. It would take me about 4years of saving to get the D800D. I'm currently using a D90. and I'm starting to shoot weddings, (small wedding, mainly friends of friends who know I'm a student. Would you upgrade to the 7100 to shoot better weddings now, or wait until you could get the D800, I was thinking of getting the 7100 then in a few years (when the D800E start having refurbished and used ones for sale, selling my equipment and upgrading at that time. Opinions?

Buy the D800E now, there may not be a later!
What can the D7100 do in shooting a Wedding that you can't do with a D90? The D90 is a great camera. If you don-t have a 2nd camera you should consider another D90 super cheap right now. Sounds to me like you will not be happy until you go with a FF. So save your money and get one later. - Dave
You can do a lot with 12 megapixels. I think the biggest improvement of the 7100 is the high ISO quality. If that's not something you need, the D90 is a great camera. Same sensor as the D300s i've used. It's always exciting to get a new...toy though. I do have a D800 and love it.
What is the D90 doing that you would like to do? What kind of glass do you have? Maybe if you get better glass your photos will improve. Two of my friends that I go birding with shoot birds in flight. When you enlarge the photo you can see the veins in the breast feathers. I don't think there is anything wrong with a D90

To answer your question based on your post I'd say get the D7100. It will do everything you need it to do and it will leave the D90 in the dust. I have a D90 a D7100 and a D800 and unless you have a reason to go full frame the D7100 will make you a happy camper.

It's a matter of who are are deep down. I keep reading on UHH about the disease of over buying. If you're aspiring to a career in photography, get the equipment offering experience with the mechanics of shutter speed, f/stops, ISO settings, and lens choices. Master the basics. If you're a gifted photographer it will show ... even on modest equipment. Upgrade when you feel you've earned the privilege of owning your dream camera.
On the other hand, if you're impetuous, which is fine, get the most you can afford now. Ask yourself if you're a future person ... or a now person. It's fine either way ... if you're true to yourself.
simplify your decision making...buy them both

Is this helpful? Buy a refurb D600 from Adorama for under $1600.

You're asking the wrong person because "I want it all, and I want it now." That can be a problem in reality, but it's how I operate.
That's a tough call. The D90 is no slouch, but the D7100 has lots better specs. If you can swing the D7100, I would go for it now. In a few years, you can sell it and put the money toward the D800e, if you still want it.
If we all waited for the perfect set of circumstances to do everything, we would never do anything. Planning for the future is great, but you still have to do something in the present.

Keep checking eBay, Amazon, etc, etc. You'll find a used one sooner than you think! Put it on a watch list, Until then, maybe your local camera store can rent you one for a while, within your budget, of course. I haven't bought a "new" camera in a very long time, and my used stuff is amazing! Good luck to you.
Great video. It makes me want to rush out and buy a D7100 (but I won't).
Here's a question for Nikon. This is the second 80-400mm lens they have made, so it should be called 80-400mm VR II because that "II" does not refer to the second version of the VR, but to the second version of the lens. This was news to me a few weeks ago when I learned about this naming convention.
