I have a Canon 7d and a wide variety of equipment. However, there are times I would like to just carry a small (shirt pocket), high quality point and shoot camera. I have been doing some research, but does anyone have some recommendations, cost is not a significant barrier.
Sounds as if you are a Canon shooter but give the Sony RX100 a try. I think you may be pleasantly surprised.
For a 'pocket' camera I like the Panasonic Lumix SZ-7
Lots of capabilities and a 10x optical zoom.
There is much discussion on this topic in the forum. If you enter "point and shoot" camera or some other relevant subject in the search box above, I think you will get all the info you will need to make a decision. Also look through all the subjects in this discussion. Good luck.
PS - take a look at the Canon SX50. It has received some good press.
You need not look at any of the bridge or superzoom campacts, as they are not pocketable. It is hard to beat the little Panasonics with their Leica lenses for high quality images.
I carry a Canon Powershot A1200 , 12.1 mp around all the time... Reason for picking this perticular one was that it has a viewfinder, simple and easy to use...
In taking another look at my "PS" regarding the SX50, I clearly mis-spoke. The SX50 is clearly NOT a pocket camera. Sorry if I misled you.

I would vote for a Canon G1X, or the SX50.

Both are good cameras, but not really "pocket cameras"
Nokia pureview 808 has the best smartphone camera on the market today, this is the only phone amateur photographers should carry, it is a good smartphone and then you do not need a separate pocket camera.
The Canon Powershot S100 is a great little camera, but no viewfinder. Most P & S cameras have no V.F. I hope you realize that.

Hi EPT, by second camera is a Panasonic Lumix TZ20, this is my third one in this range. I started with a TZ5, a TZ10, and now I have a TZ20, this camera produces superb images and slips in to my shirt pocket. The latest one is a TZ40 they all look very similar but every model usually has an increased MP and extra zoom and many other functions. My TZ20 had 16X zoom, 14mp sensor and has a GPS function it cost me £99 refurbished and brand new £139 from Argos. In the US the model numbers are different, but it's easy to work out which is which.
Cheers JE
Panasonic Lumix,Leica Lens.can't do much better than that.
