Hi gang

After a little bit of advice, I currently have a D90 and a D7000 and have just aquired a D7100, my dilemma is do I keep the 90 or 7000 as a second camera, I have had two 90's and this has always proved a great camera ( im a bit sentimental about my 90 ), or do I keep the 7000, a great camera but I have had a few focusing issues with it but Ive also had some great shots.

Both have their pro's and con's but I just cant decide.

Help please :?: :!: :?:

I would keep the one that handled most like your 7100 and that would be your 7000. My opinion is the less you have to think which camera is in hand at any given time Is the better backup. ;)

Personally, I have a D90 so I'm biased. But if you have had it for a long time, you are Very familiar with it, sometimes that goes a long way over newer technology. And I didn't buy the 7000 because of the focus issues I read about, I'm saving up for a D800 so I can be a camera snob LOL

Oh moggey, moggey, moggey - these questions are just so difficult to deal with by other people. Why can't you make this decision yourself? What's holding you back? How do you really expect other people to help you? You are a "seasoned" Nikon user having had the benefit of using 3 different and exceptional Nikon DSLR's. How did you make the decisions regarding your previous cameras? Why not use the same process again? After all it's usually the same process that we go through each time we make such a decision.

One further question for you ...... how high up your list of camera wants and needs does "sentimentality" come?

In no way do I want to come across as rude or offensive ..... but do you really need this much "hand-holding"? To me there is a lot of personal pride and inner satisfaction in the full knowledge that I know how to make a proper assessment of my wants and needs when buying anything, find options and choices to fit my needs, and then decide for myself. You know, I'm sure, that the decision is always so much stronger when you make it yourself.

Come on man ..... work it out for yourself ...... then tell the forum how you did it so that others can work it out for themselves too ! How many times here do we see the question "help me decide" or threads entitled "decisions, decisions, decisions"? The world seems full of people who want others to make the decision for them. Not me !!

Oh moggey, moggey, moggey - these questions are ju... (show quote)

... there are some of us who do need some hand holding, and there is nothing wrong with that. I wish I'd had more hand holding when I was starting out because I wouldn't have a bag full of 2nd rate glass.

Sell the D90 on eBay and keep the D7000. You'll have two fine cameras with almost identical controls. (Maybe they are identical.) The D7000 is newer and better than the D90.

And you're quite right in what you say Brendalou - however, there's a big difference between "starting out ignorance" and possible "bad advice" (or did you just get "sold to"?) in your acquisition of lenses, and this situation where moggey has 3 Nikon DSLR's, each following one after the other (I think the US term is "iterating"), has experience and a good knowledge and use of each, and still can't decide !

Hey - when I began this response you were "Brendalou1969" - but you've metamorphosed in those few brief minutes ! Be much nicer to see nice a photo of you rather than some "mean" cat's eye !

I know. Brendalou1969 is the user id I use for banking and my husband threw a fit this morning when he saw me using that on the forum. SO in my morning fog I set up xxMeanKittyxx which is what I use on quibids but then my husband got mad at that too. So I sent another PM to admin asking if they would change it to xxBrendaxx or xxBrendaLouxx,, so I don't know what to keep or ask for, I kinda like mean kitty with the cat eye, but it seems too "judgemental I guess..

Donate the 90 to a local photo club, and take the deduction. You'll feel good about it, and they'd be glad to get.

Ha, ha !! Another faced with "decisions", eh Brenda ? Since you're from the Denver area why not use "DenverBren" - has a nice ring to it - people have an immediate idea of where you are - and use as avatar (what an 'orrible word !) a nice head and shoulders of you (f2.8) with a famous Colorado beauty spot soft in the background. See - I am prepared to help where I think it's due !

It's too late! All we needed was Brendalour1969 to drain you bank account. Banks make it so easy to get in, don't they. As for being judgmental, I think you'll find that no one on UHH is judgmental. (We need a sarcasm emoticon.)

I think it's rather simple. Keep all three and the one that spends the most time in the closet during the next 12 months gets eliminated. You may find that the used sale value to be less then the sentimental value or the value obtained by passing it down to someone in your circle.

Thinking of converting my D90 to IR. I picked up an IR point in shoot from Santa last year and its a lot of fun to shoot, just the P&S has its limits.

Unless you have money you don't know what to do with?
I'd get rid of both bodies, D90 and D7000 !!

How often does the D7100 go down?

Changing camera bodies these days is like chang'in underwear. (just an expression)
In a couple of years you'll buy another body.
I think the D7100 can last that long.

Buy the new Sony Cyber-shot HX50V as a companion
to the Nikon for its great portability and image quality.

just my opinion.
