Thanks susie-q-tip I used Photoshop CS6 but I got the instructions in a free magazine called Best Ever Photoshop Techniques from the magazine Digital Photo magazine so it can be done in Elements, If you like I can let you know how to do it. Val

Nice work on the sketches. I think the eyes are a touch better in the first one, but they're both good.

Thanks Treepusher, I tried two in the sketches to make one softer but I agree with you that the eyes stand out more in no 1. Thanks for looking

I took a shot at this with a program called Photo to Sketch. It allows you to choose pen, pencil or pastel. I've only tried a few times, but I found the pencil version seems to work best. There are options in the line thickness, etc.

Sorry, I do not like it as I think that it makes her look too harsh and I do not like the darkness in her face. I did not do this with a filter but did it with layers in PS6

I only have PSE 10, and I haven't tried doing this there. I like what you did. It's possible to lighten the lines and get different results with the program I used. I just did a quick job and posted to let others know that there are programs out there that can do this for you. My husband carves and we had been looking for a simple program to convert a photo to a sketch so that he could use it for a carving pattern.
