Wow I'll have two of those then !!
Neat to have, but can the TV stations produce those kinds of images?

TV are still broadcasting SD and 720p HD. The more advanced cable systems can send 1080p to your house but they still get 720p from the broadcaster.
What exactly is 4k anyway. I keep seeing the term but no explaination.

Yes I read all of that. Sales pitch but not an actual explaination of what it is. "Ultra HD" what is that? HD comes in 720p or 1080 p or i so what resolution is "Ultra HD". The research I have done seems to say it means you get get a better picture on a larger screen and there is no standard between manufacturers yet. So unless your are going from a 40" screen to a 70" screen you most likely won't see any difference. Of course my understanding could be wrong, which is why I asked the question.
This is sort of like all the marketing hype about 4g cell phones. The 4g simply means it is the 4th generation of cell phone. It doesn't mean any great improvement, just newer and better looking - maybe.
For photographers ...
the point of a 4K TV is to use it as a monitor.
4 times the pixels and 4 times the pixel density.
It makes for a stunning display of high resolution photographs.
I have a 4K Seiki 50" ($600 at sears) ... I am sure it is no $4000 Sony ...but the displays of good photos is still spectacular.
I will never go back ... and will do many fewer prints.
I am happy as a clam ... until even higher resolution displays come out.
Yes ... the improvement in the display is very obvious.
