Besides waterfalls, old buildings and barns are some of my favorite subjects. Here's a few.

As a builder myself, I've always been fascinated by old post and beam construction. I'm lucky enough to live in a rural area with a large number of old barns but too many are falling down due to neglect. That's partly why I shoot as many barn shots as I do. This past winter took down 3 more barns in my area alone. I'll post some more shots soon.

PS: Thanks for the comments!

Unfortunately many of these old barns are owned by the elderly who cannot afford to repair them. There are government grants available but even with the grants there still isn't enough money to repair them. Sad but true. Unfortunately usually the children don't want anything to do with the farms and these beautiful icons of history. Hopefully our photos are able to preserve them forever.

These are really lovely shots and am so glad you shared them. I am so happy to see old barns being recorded and appreciated by others. With a love for things of old and the rural landscape, it's devastating to see so much of the vanishing landscape and history lost forever.

Farms are doing away with silos today. Love this shot. Keep them coming. VT has plenty of old barns and silos. Love shooting in VT. The photo by my name was taken near Rte. 100 in VT in the Fall.

I recently took my 82 year old father to visit his family homestead where 6 generations of our family farmed. There were tears in his eyes when he saw the condition that the barns were in, with the blacksmith shop and the carpentry barn with large holes in the roof. At least the livestock barns had new roofs on them. Burdock and small trees growing up all around the foundations. He told us my Grandfather paid kids to search and destroy burdock anywhere on the 600 acre farm, and the barns were immaculate when he was growing up there. I'm considering trying to document all the barns in our county that are still intact, as I know many more will be lost in the next few years.

Bish, by all means try capturing all those in your county for historys sake.

My heart goes out to you father, how sad for him to see them declining so much, it is such a part of his fond memories. It is disheartening to see so many of them disappear, oh how I love those old barns.

Keep us posted on the shots you take I'm sure we would all love to see and enjoy them.

Here's a shot of the family homestead settled about 1810. Not a great shot, but I'll get some better ones this fall.

What a beautiful place. Fall shots should be spectacular. Can't wait to see them.
