Don't get me wrong... Florida is a beautiful place... most of the time. This little flowering plant is a stinging nettle and seems to be prolific and abundant (at least around my neighborhood).
Brush up against its leaves or stem and you'd think you've touched fire.
One of my weekly rituals is to rid the yard of them. They have long roots and so far touching the white or brown part of the root doesn't seem to bother me but I would be remiss if not to recommend using gloves just in case anyone is allergic to the juice of the root.

Many interesting things are actually done with this plant including making tea. The native tribes in the Northwest make cordage from it which can be used to make clothing like hats and rope. Check it out on the WWW. Its actually a useful plant if you can get past the sting. :(

I was raised to try and avoid Bull Nettle and Stinging Nettle, because they do sting and itch and if you do come in contact with either, the best material to remove the sting was.....human urine...(use your imagination.)
'Nuff said.
