High Speed Rail is a great idea. Just a building the original transcontinental railroad was built to propel the country forward, high speed rail will do the same. The only ones really against it are those that either are not in on the action or those with businesses that will suffer once the trains are running. How wonderful it would be to get on a train in Miami and speed for six hours and be in New York.

The Japanese rail system is drowning in red ink. High speed rail can only survive with massive amounts of taxpayer money. If there was money to be made in passenger service, the railroads would be the first in line to promote it. The only ones to promote it are the quasi-government corporations that are BritRail, Amtrak, VIA, etc. They survive because of taxpayer money. None of them are profitable.

The UK trains using the high speed rail are not quasi government and they make a packet.

pipesgt; I would like my government spent 60% of our taxepayer money and stop the highway program with the taxepayer money, because it will represent the 80% of less gasoline consume and also stop the the transportation of goods from the fronters or TLC that allow mexican truck that trafic ilegal and drug. All transportation of goods shall be made by train and local truck .
I don't now from where you take the data of non profitable, the railroad is the must profitable transportation in the history of transport.

It is profitable for freight service. BUT, is not profitable for passenger service. I worked for a railroad, and I know what I am talking about.
