A question about rules regarding posting of candids

I have small number of candid pics of individuals who would be recognizable in their photos. Is it permissible to post such pictures?
Thanks to all.

If the photos were taken in a public place then you are free to use them as you want as long as you do not misrepresent what is in the photo or the people in the photo.

This is from a legal viewpoint? - or is it just something you think should be right?
Sounds made up to me.
Define "misrepresent".
I think the courts could easily spend a few weeks on just that one word.
Please bear in mind that this is an international website and laws vary widely across the world.

I'm not a lawyer, or even a smart guy...so take this for what its worth. It is my understanding that a photo of a person in a location where there was not a reasonable expectation of privacy, can be used for non commercial, non defamatory purposes. Post away.

I know there are Rules for the forum, but I couldn't find them.

This is fairly true in general, but the law is not the same everywhere; France is a country where there are very strict laws about the rights of an individual concerning image rights.

Exactly ( in the US anyway) but to be clear..."non commercial" specifically means "not used to advertise a product or service"

It doesn't mean that you can't make a profit from a photograph or sell it or publish it or print it or post it.

Stick to the international law of Common Sense and Common Courtesy. If you have to question whether you should or shouldn't do something - don't do it. Put yourself in their place and see if you would want this picture to be posted.

Happy trails

I'm no layer either, but if I were in the "witness protection program" and I found my photo on here, I would probably be a very unhappy camper. That is if I were indeed still here and not styling a pair of new cement shoes!!
Happy posting, of course it's OK, unless .............
