Hey folks, remember I was talking about going back up to a full size to use to compliment my P510 ?
Guy just down the way from me here in Ft Myers just put out a Nikon D50 with minimum shots, a 18-55 and a 70-300 ( probably kit lens ) and accessories and took a suggested price of $300.00 from me for the whole thing.
Does that sound good for that camera and lens ?

Just realize you'd be using old tech. Nikon's first entry into the DSLR. world and only 6 mp.
That combo sold on eBay over the last 60 days for from $200 to $466... Average about $325. Considering it's down the street... Pretty good. That number comes out of about a dozen listings almost identical to that kit.
I just purchased and resold a D60, low count, only the 18-55, bag, memory card for $225. But the seller was hungry. I was just helping her out.
I shot it for a couple of weeks. Nice camera.
As a comparision to up the scale a bit... Adorama had/has the Nikon D5000 refurb with the 18-55. for $439.

Just to keep the facts straight, the D50 was at least the fourth or fifth Nikon DSLR. The D50 might be Nikon's best 6mpx camera, and as such might be a good choice if you wanted to keep post processing time short and conserve disk space. It will use all the Nikon AF and AFs lenses and all the Ai and Ais manual focus lenses.
Thanks to all for the great info. Going down in an hour or so to power it up and take a bunch of shots with it using all modes.
Hopefully I'll be please with it and purchase it with a smile and a thank you.

Despite upgrading, I kept my D50. Don't worry about the "low" pixel count. With a little care, I get sharp 13x19 inch prints from it. I am still using the original battery. And it converts beautifully for infrared photography, should I want to do that. In other words, there is no reason at all to throw it away.
Happy shooting!

Seems like an OK deal to me with two lens. I still use D70 and D70s, not much different than a D50. The 6MP is OK too, unless your making huge prints.

I've had a D50 from new & have found it a great camera, has a flash sync of 1/500th sec, battery just lasts forever even still now, takes great shots, you'll be happy with that baby !

Unless you're one of those guys that just has to have the latest big dollar cameras you'll be happy with the 50 and the lenses, A reasonable price and low count too! I had one and it shot well, did go to a D200, plenty for me, but the 50 still gets used as my 'second'.
