I have 60 30-second on/off star trails that I cannot turn into lines. I used StarStaX and Startrails with the Multiply Option, but all I see are beads. How do I turn them into lines?

I haven't tried this yet but plan to. What was the interval between shots? Maybe that was to long is my guess, but having not tried it yet I'm just making a SWAG.

Did you have the long exposure noise reduction turned on? That would be one reason for the result you got.

Thank you! Here is another from the same night that turned out better. Oddly all I changed as the ISO.

This was my first venture into Star Trails and with a few quick reads it was pointed out there are two ways to produce these; one long exposure which may cause a lot of noise or multiple 30 seconds shots later stacked in software. The 30 second examples were lines so I expected the same. I have since received word from several software companies and have learned the error of my ways. It will be hard to do, but with practice I will reshoot this later in the year.

I have thought about this too and wonder myself if I reshoot it the same way but with a 1-5 second dark frame if it would not be better. I will keep practicing and try to perfect this.

Sadly I this was my first time doing these and had it on Auto. I am learning and will try again soon.

It is called Gap Filling, but the company says it was never intended for gaps that large. More for mirror flap than anything. They suggested ways in post to correct it, but you need the North Star as a reference, so that would be difficult. I also learned that the angle from center also makes a difference as noted in North Dome. So much to learn, but so much fun doing it!
