With all the yelling about Universal Background Checks for gun purchases it would seem that there should be background checks for those that immigrate into the country. Though the FBI was warned about the older brother in the Boston Bombings by a foreign government (probably the Russians) they dropped the ball.

They were warned and they checked it out but didn't find anything.

They didn't/couldn't ask the right questions.

An Universial Check is already possible - its all on your drivers license...

All the laws needed are already exist - if they're used...

We are the only country that makes a law and hardly ever uses it,and then years later makes a new law for the same crime with a new name coined by the press. Some day, someone here will realize the US has become a huge joke.

You are not alone - UK does this quite often especially with the terrorism laws.

A knee jerk reaction to any crisis is expected of our politicians nowadays.

We appease victims by passing a law with their name attached as though the new law will somehow make a difference. No law will make a difference if it’s not enforced.

You make an interesting point, Pepper. And I wonder how it is we can pass a law through Congress, and the POTUS signs it, then later one person can declare that law will only be enforced by "discretion"?

They followed up on it with the given information, then requested more specific info from the reporting government to enable a more in depth I query. That request was not forthcoming. To claim they didn't ask the right questions is plain arrogant, ignorant, and self serving.

That being the case, perhaps they could have searched further, or queried other sources, rather than ending the investigation. Had they known the end result of their shallow quest for answers they would have pursued the issue deeper. Their efforts must be judged a failure, in fact, a very dismal failure.

Not so. It was an open and continuing investigation pending receipt of further information. If you expected a rabbit pulled from a hat and incriminating information to materialize without substantial proof then your hopothisis would be correct. If you desire a police state where a being may be deprived liberty on a mere suspicion or innunendo then you again would be correct. Ie: I dislike u so I report you as a suspect person and they grab you, deprive you of your liberty as they interrogate you. Would you be willing to accept this?

They didn't ask the right questions because it would be politically incorrect to do so. Obama Admin. had tied their hands. And that is just plain arrogant, ignorant, and self serving!
