I was in the Air force also. I used the same equipment you described. I sold both cameras for $100 a piece to get back to California. They say if you don't have a sense of humor it ain't funny. I am going to the garden to take pictures of flowurs but I don't know how to spell their names. If spelling is a requirement for this site I am in deep#####.

was it me or did josoiii previous photo with the fur cap make him look like a young Josef Stalin? oh bye the way for insulting sony markomarks will be here comenting. He can sense a sony slight a mile away. Also what about Pentax and Olympus? Both produce excellant cameras for professionals and ametuer(oh heck i cant spell either) to get back to the origional posters question, its not the camera its th ephotographer. best is so subjective. Are you wanting to become a pro? what area of photography interests you? whats best for sports or action is not neccesary best for landscapes, or fashion. Go to a real camera store, where the salespeople are photographers not minimum wage untrained drones. try different makes and models see which one fits your hands, that you are comfortable with. the area to spend the mponey on is the lenses not the camera body. besides whats top dog today is obsolete in 6 months. iI shoot nikon. they were origionaly a optics company and still make the best lenses in the world. What the cannonites hate to admit is that when cannon was first starting out nikon made their lenses. The top nikon camera is a d=3 at five grand. if you are starting out shooting with a d-3 is as much overkill as going deer hunting with a bazooka. :!:

Sinatraman;
Yah, Pentax brings back memories. I owned Pentax S1. I think it was a couple models before the spotmatic. Anyway one day I came home from work and it was GONE, along with everything in the house except my cloths. On the counter were the divorce papers. Seems an old boyfriend came a calling. I just remembered...my second wife did almost the same thing. We just moved to Arizona and bought a house. About the third day after we moved in I was unpacking some boxes in the garage. She walked in and said she rented an apartment and wanted a divorce. Just wanted to be single again. I got custody of our 1yr old (now 36) and we never saw her again. Anyway, after the Pentax I became a Minolta man until they got bought out some years back.
Hump... Saw your online info, funny we never ran into each other. Born Detroit, lived in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and East Lansing. BS from MSU. Lived in Melbourn, spent a night in Coaco beach jail with three friends for swimming in the skinny and being under the influence...dead drunk, years later lived in Homestead, St Petersburg and finally Naples until we move to Albuquerque 18 years ago. And finally, Born on September 23. Smaller world.

No not really. Former cop huh.. The women I bought our house from was a retired cop from Homestead, Fl. I think she spent too many years on the street. She slept with her .38 under her pillow, and a shot gun under her bed plus a couple more handguns hidden around the house. As a remodeling contractor, she called me over to patch her ceiling and the flat roof. Over the previous couple of months she kept hear noises on the roof and would call the neighbor on the telephone all hours of the night and ask that he check it out. He never found anyone up there and was getting damn tired of her telephone calls. Finally, one night she once again heard someone walking around up there and pulled her .38 out and put five round into the ceiling and through the roof. Scared the hell out of the neighbor sleeping next door and the pigons walking around up there but didn't kill any. Made a hell of a mess of the ceiling and roof.

Back on topic, no offense intended, but I was a Minolta guy back in the emulsion years (around the time that man invented the wheel and discovered fire LOL) For manhy years I shot a Minolta SRT-101 with a 1.2 rokkor and upgraded to an XE-7 for the brief time that Minolta produced them. I finally went kicking and screaming into the digital age, first with snapshot pocket cameras eventually settling on a Canon G10. I believe that Canon makes the best, but Nikon is very close in my book. So close that it is actually other issues that are more important.

Such as what camera do your finds shoot? My father-in-law and brother-in-law both have Canon 7D, and since we get along well, we have a lens library. Also, consider what kind of pictures are you going to take? Many people buy DSLRs when all they use it for is snapshots and Bokeh is not important to them.

Bottom line is that either Canon or Nikon is, in my opinion, the best but I have heard good reviews for the Pentax K series Olympus etc. Just my 2 cents!

Rick
