I woke up my monitor this morning to discover a very large black spot, & growing, in the bottom right corner. I've had the monitor for over a year so returning it is out of the question. I never really liked it very much anyway. It is kind of complicated & the online manual lacks a lot to be desired. I want to get another 23" that is good for viewing photos & has accurate color, etc. Would like to stay under $200.00 if possible. Any suggestions/advice much appreciated. This one is an HP. Would kind of like to get away from that this time around.

Are you quite certain that the warranty is expired? Some have two year warranties. If there is a Costco near you I suggest you look there. Very good prices and biggest brands. I have an Dell monitor and a Samsung Monitor both are very nice.

For a start reset to factory defaults and see if that helps.
Second you get what you pay for
My Eizo has a 5 year guarantee

Mine is 3 years old now, what people don't know is EIZO sell off EX demo monitors with full guarantees :) :) :)
Accurate colors do not come with a monitor. You have to calibrate it. Unfortunately the calibration tools cost close to what you want to spend on a monitor. Hope a reset fixes the black spot for you!

Tried the default setting. No change. My brother has the same thing on his tv. These are dead pixels with no hope of fixing.

Yep. Warranty expired. I have a feeling they wouldn't have honored it anyway.

To a degree, yes many do need calibrating, but again you get what you pay for, my EIZO can be but never has, again you get what you pay for

I have an HP, 17" that I've had for about 5-6 years. Going strong. Caliberated it with a tool available free from the web, did it once and it still holds. Haven't the faintest idea what model it is nor do I know where to find it.

JR,
Your comparing apples and oranges. An Eizo is no where under $200 unless it's used one. Even the IPS monitors from DELL and ASUS are more than $300. and you really need an IPS for any accuracy in the color and viewing angle.
I am useing a Sanyo 27in. monator and Tv. This works great. Color is very good and is HD This way you have both and the price is good for a combo. I'm sure you will like it.Bigwolf40
