Im looking at getting my first real nice camera for my budget. Husband wife team. We have the great skills but are stuck in the dilemma of which to purchase. We would like to buy the same so we can swap lenses from time to time. I would like people to offer advice and pro's and con's about both of these cameras. I have heard only a little on both and from what we know they are both great. Any one with any news or advice to help me in the purchase debate? Please help!!!!!

PH. Welcome to UHH. I suggest you Google the Canon vs the Pentax. There is a lot of info which may assist you in making a decision. If you have a nearby camera store, go and put both cameras in BOTH of your hands. Check out the feel and comfort of each. Then decide. They both are similar.

My neighbor shoots Pentax, he has the K30 and his results are always good. I shoot Canon so we are often comparing our photos. Both cameras offer a great potential whether the cameras achieve their potential or not is up to the photographer. It is not the camera it is most certainly the photographer.

Although Pentax offers a very good product Canon offers more potential as the EOS lens system is the most extensive in the industry. That being said Canon has just introduced another model the T5i. That camera has a few more features and the kit lens is more advanced than the one on the T3i.

At the end of the day. What feels right. I wanted a nice camera too. Went to the shops several times weighed each model and then compared functions and features. For me the Canon came was the best and I am so pleased with it.

It's give and take for both cameras. Pentax has a faster burst at 6 fps to Canon's 4fps. Canon has a better in camera video and you can't beat the professional weather seal on the K-30. It's pretty much a toss up!

thank you for the welcome! I have been reading and watching for sometime. I only now decided to ask my question. To make sure that it was put Correctly! Your kindness is much appreciated! I have done my research and found that it is a close call on both. I just wondered if anyone had any other advice before we decided on one. We did purchase the Canon today. After much debate. To add to that, I would like to let you all know that I appreciate the forum and I am watching and reading learning as I go. I will be back daily and continue to check in. While our decision was a touch one....you imput had a great deal to do with it! Thanks again!

did you get one camera or two? If only one, it might prove to be interesting on deciding who gets to man the controls ...

I vote for the Canon t3i. Not because i own a Canon, but because it is more versatile than pentax.

CHG...funny you should ask. Yes, in fact we bought the Canon T#i and got a bundle deal. It came with 2 IS lenses, flash, memory card, ect ect. Im ordering the grip as we speak. Ironically, when I went to visit my father last night. He gave me an excellent opportunity. 1 month ago, he purchased a Canon EOS D60 and used once. A friend of his gave him the option of buying a Canon D5 Mark 2 . So, in the feeling of generosity, he is offering the D60 for $ 525.00. So, I guess our search is over. I did not want to pass that up! How close in comparison are these two cameras. I mean I know one is obviously better. But can the T3i hold up against the D60? You guys have been great! I feel like Im in a room full of teachers! This is spectacular! Howdy back to you from Washington!!! Let me know what you guys think!
Yours,
Parkhurst

I ended up choosing the K30..1. weather proof(18-135 lens is WP also) 2. Good to great ratings..dpreview, pentax forum, etc. 3. Newest tech. ...cons..Pentax lens are pricey, not as many buying choices for extra things. Hope this helps. pm me if I can help in any other way. jj
ps..Bought mine last July.

Pentax has always been synonomous with great quality. Then again, so has Canon so i think it's what you're comfortable with.

A Camera, regardless of it's brand is only as good as the person behind it. Being what i consider an amature photographer, only for about 10 years or so and still learning, i've owned a Canon 20D, 40D, 50D, and a Nikon D90 with the best glass as well as the kit lenses.

In that time span i've learned that it's not how much you spend, although it can and does make a difference to the most discriminating eye. I've also learned that what REALLY makes a difference for me is the pure joy that comes from being happy with what you shoot, knowing you captured that special moment that will never happen again.

BTW, i have a T3i, 18-55 IS, 70-300 IS, 100mm Canon Macro. To me, this is the perfect combo. Then again, this is only me.

Stop chasing Rainbows and enjoy photographing them,,,,,,,just my 2 cents.

I'm a Canon owner who knows about this company's attention detail and quality so it's the only camera brand I recommend. The t3 would be an excellent start for you both.

Good luck
