That looks very interesting, I just wonder why the lense needs to come of the camera.

He could have explained that better. I didn't hear him mention opening the shutter, either. From the look we got at the LCD, it seemed as if he had the mirror locked up.

Could be, that the 'Glass' is acting as a lens. Or have you been doing this sort of imagery with a camera lens in place? Please show examples of your Refractography, so we can compare which is better.

That is the point of using an extremely small point source as the illuminator. The light is scattered by the glass or other object selected and an as it emanates from a pseudo point source is does not require focusing. The lens is not required, because a lens collects diffused light from diverse sources and aligns it to a focus point on focus plane. In other words, forget about why, just take the jolly lens off and don't ask questions.....

Interesting.
Probably the lens will focus too much an ruin the effect.
