How many more catastrophes must the USA suffer, poor innocent fire fighters and residents

I only hope that this was an accident rather than some idiot jumping on the back of the Boston bombings.

Our thoughts are with all those involved, dead, injured and emergency services.

Last night, a fertilizer plant exploded in a small Texas town called West, near Waco. Maybe as many as 15 were reportedly killed, and hundreds injured.

Probably a bigger disaster than Boston (in regards to loss of life and property), but hopefully an accident, not the work of a terrorist.

Let's hope that it is an true accident and not some employer negligence.

I don't think you should hold yor breath. This is hearsay, but I have read 2 things. One is that the facility hadn't been inspected since 2006. The other, lightening set it off. Now it becomes which came first - the chicken or the egg? If it was lightening, did it set it off because of blatent code violations or was it pure chance? Now we will never know because there is nothing left!

It may appear there is nothing left, SHUTERED, but the arson investigators will have plenty to look at, they are extremely clever people! I'm not, however, suggesting it was arson...just that those are the investigators who will be looking into this. I noticed your comment about a possible lightning strike on another thread, but could find no reports that agree with that. We'll have to wait to find out the cause of this unfortunate catastrophe.
We had a similar explosion here in '88, at a plant making solid rocket fuel for the space shuttle project. They were using some poor storage practices with ammonium perchlorate; very nasty stuff. Amazing damage to homes in the surrounding areas, but surprisingly little loss of life or injury.
