Thanks mdorn. Since we are almost neighbors a new one might get here that quickly but because of an almost $100. difference in cost I bought this from Amazon and they are probably not as concerned with customer service as some other vendors. If cleaning the contacts doesn't solve my problem I will send it back. Mike

Suggest you use Canon instead of the Amazon vendor.

I bought mine from Amazon as well... Very easy to return if defective. They should not even charge you for the shipping.

I just wanted to clear up a comment I made that was very wrong. I contacted Amazon after the lens went blurry again to see about returning the lens. They were great sending the info on how to do it and advising the UPS driver would pick up lens in a day or two. After I went through this I tried the lens one more time and it worked fine and I thought,"Oh no, now what do I do" but after about 5 or 6 shots it again went opaque so I should be good to go. I sent a note to Amazon about what might happen. As always I appreciate all the folks on here that took the time to help. Mike

Intermittent problems are always the devil. As soon as I take my car to the mechanic whatever problem I was having disappears the minute he pops the hood.

It must be built into machines as it seems every one I know has experienced this phenomenon.
