Found this fly while walking my dog on a cool night I found it at dusk and it was still there when I returned a short time later. . I used a tripod. The fly is about 5mm long. Canon 7D at ISO 500, Canon 100mm L macro lens, 1/20-sec at f/16, Neewer ringflash with home made diffuser. By the time I took the picture it was getting dark. Image cropped.
Fly on a bud
Either your camera moved, or your subject & plant moved: nothing is in sharp focus. Your 1/20-sec shutter duration is too slow, without a solid tripod, or in even a slight breeze.
Most field macro-photographers hand-hold, and use a speedlight to properly illuminate subject at settings of 1/200-sec at f/16 or f/22.
