I am having trouble with the text tool on CS5. No matter what size I use even 72 pt the text is so small I can barely see it on the photo, I am using it on its own layer, really frustrated. Any advice would be welcomed. Do I have a glitch in the program?

Okay, so now I'm going to point out a few things that might help. I'm going under the assumption that you have not tried these methods, so if you have just ignore those.

1. Type your text. Highlight it and then try to change the size.
2. Type your text. Highlight is and then change you font style then try to change the size.
3. Create the text box, type your text. The click on the arrow key and try to drag the text box to enlarge your text.
4. Create your text in a different direction first. See if you can change the text size by highlighting it and then try to change the font size. After you have done that, create a second text box and see if that will then allow you to have the right font size for the direction of the text you want.
5. If you have a PS or PNG file from a prior project, that has text on it, you can do a copy paste. Once the pasted text box is in place, click on the text tool and change the text to what you want it to read.
6. Go to PS help section and type in "how to create text" You may find that your have done something wrong in the creating of your text that you just didn't realize at the time.

Finally, see if there are any updates available for your CS5.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Caroline

I'm thinking either the text box isn't big enough to hold your font, or it isn't selected - it's not enough to select just the box, you must select the text within the box , THEN change the size.

It has been my experience that when a font is too large that it simply disappears from view, but is still actually there. Expanding the text box, by dragging the handles will show you if that is the case. But Ugly Jake made a valid point. You MUST have the text itself selected (highlighted) within the text box to make changes to it.

Tomorrows lesson is on text, I'm taking an online class on photoshop, so I'm thinking that it should be addressed in the lesson. I really appreciate both of you taking the time to reply. I am so new to photoshop that it is still overwhelming. I am realizing that there are several ways to do everything in PS and I just need to find my way. Having a hard time learning to walk before I can run.

Photoshop is one of those programs that seems difficult to master. However, at some point it will click and then you will run wide open. It's an awesome photo editing tool. It is even better if you have the whole suite, as the programs run hand in hand. I love the fact that I can create so many different file types. Good Luck and have fun with it.

I think the image very big; you loadedthe image film and have not scaled it down to 8x10, 5x7, or whatever size you
finally want. I like to have the rulers on; edit>preferences.
