Lost Drag Strips

I was contacted a while back by author/photographer Tommy Lee Byrd. He saw a photo I shot of Oswego Drag Raceway as it is today, closed for over 30 years. He was writing a book, Lost Drag Strips: Ghosts of Quarter Miles Past, and asked permission to use any shots I had. Here they are.
I don't consider most of the stuff I shoot artistic, or anything that anyone else couldn't do. But I feel someone needs to document places like this, and in this case, no one else did.

Nice article...way to go. I too feel the need to document stuff. I take all sorts of things for posterity...car lots, store interiors, drive thru menu's, construction sites, abandoned places, old buildings...on and on. Who knows, years from now someone might find them interesting and have a use for them. So keep on document'n...

Congratulations. Not all photography has to be artistic. You photos do a good job of documenting the demise of an era. Could you include at least one copy of the original?

Grouch, when I was a teenager, 60's early 70's, we used to go to the Vaca Valley drag strip just outside of Vacaville, CA.
Sadly enough, it has long since thundered into history.
Now in our 60's, we still bench race there on occasion. One of the Smother Bros. used to race AA fuelers there. Ahhh, the good o'l days.
