Saw this 1957 VW on a tow dolly on I-15 heading toward Las Vegas. Don't see many bugs anymore but certainly not one this old.
Really unusual to see one with a sunroof.

Great capture, love the back oval window on it, also very rare on that model.

Not sure about Australia but the one's imported to the U.S. had that window in 1957. 1958 went to the larger back window. I had a friend that had a 1955 or 56 that had a split small oval window like this.

My dad bought a '58 sunroof in '62...GREAT car. I don't think it had the oval rear window. I love the memories!
Thanks for posting!

"58 had the first rectangular rear window. I had a ''57 that we bought new. It became my "first car" in high school. A lot of good memories - no radio, heater worked like turning on a faucet!. I still remember that it took 4 bolts, two cables and a gas line to remove the engine!
Thanks for looking.

I agree. I think all of us would still like to have at least one of the cars we had way back when!!! Mine is a '65 Pontiac Tempest Custom, 326 with a factory Hurst 4-speed.

We had a '69 bus and I took those 4 bolts, two cables and the gas line off one engine and put them back with a rebuilt attached. This was in January in Nebraska in the driveway and it was 2 above. - Dave

The paint is less faded under where the license plate was. The shape looks less rectangular than American plates, perhaps this Beetle was imported? Yes, I know, they all were. I mean not originally for the US market.

Possible i guess. Didn't some of the older ones have the amber turn signals that rested in the car body until they were activated then they would pop out or am I thinking of a different car.
Anyway, Thanks for looking.

The oval rear window on the bugs ran from 1954 through 1957. The "split" rear window ran from late 40's to very early 1954, when they changed over to the oval. I have a fully restored 1954 oval, that looks like showroom new.

mooseeyes! thanks for the update! I thought his was a 55 but it must have been older. Would love to see some pics of your '54. Was it also a 36 horsepower?
