On a recent visit in Chicago I saw this panhandler with a very unique sign to get money. It read" Girlfriend kidnapped by ninjas, need money for ransom".

Pretty clever way to put a new spin on panhandling!!

They are a bit more calloused out here in Vegas:
"Girlfriend kidnapped...Wardrobe for Sale".

They are everywhere out here. See at least 10 everyday on my way to work in the Loop. More on the way home since it's later and they have managed to crawl out of their cardboard homes. The last time I gave one a dollar he asked me if I could give him another one. Really? There's a "couple" that sit and hold each other in the same spot everyday. Except if it's raining, then it's just him. Whenever I walk by, she is usually feeding him a sandwich or burger. She literally feeds him like his slave as he holds the "Homeless and Hungry" sign. They are something else.

We are going to see a lot more of them in the coming years. I just read a article on an unemployment study that was done recently. It found that employers will not hire people who have been out of work over six months, even if they are qualified. They prefer workers who have a history of work, qualified or not. However, there are likely millions of people who have been out of work that long, losing their jobs at the outset of the downturn. The study also said that going back to school was not too helpful either, because as was said, they still have been out of work too long, so they have no hope of being hired. That then creates a group who simply have no hope of getting hired.

Trouble is brewing and as long as we keep blaming instead of helping, nothing will change for the good. Life evolves; Fighting it will only create chaos, and out of that chaos will be come a new world, one which we may not like.

We simply can't keep hating. It is counter productive and will end in misery for most.
