I would like to be politically correct when I make comments on here, so?
So when is a shot a shot, a photo a photo or a photograph a photograph.
I see a lot of comments saying nice shot, or nice photo/photograph. I feel I may be insulting folks by saying that was a great shot, or should it be nice photograph.
How do others feel about the political correctness of comments. Or do they all mean the same?
Comments definitely welcome. Thanks for readingSteve
Steve, I personally don't differentiate between any of the catagories or implied designations and all the BS that goes with those.
And not all photographers are at a a skill level that they can even tell the difference. Then there are many more that simply apply their own meanings.
When you become truly proficient, it's pretty easy to tell when a photographer has made a capture that has the composition, appealing juxtaposition of all the elements in the photograph, and the proper uses of the light, all in one capture. Not to mention those that can't, so they try to achieve that in PP, and that is pretty obvious as well.
These are the same reasons that club photography is divided into levels, so that people can progress and be able to compete on even footing.
So, all that said, maybe you should resort to using the word "capture" and adding the adjective to it that best describes it for YOU. Such as, " that is a very professional capture". Or creative, or colorful, or whimsical, etc.
Otherwise you are merely enviting the age old battle to describe a snapshot from a photo, yet one more time, to which there is no consensus, or ever will be.
Steve, I probably did not answer your queiry. I just don't think it has an answer. Sorry.
Happy shooting
