Yellowstone for a Week

I get occasional emails from a group called Road Scholar, which used to known as Elder Hostel. They offer very good deals on trips with an educational component. I signed up for an 8 day, 7 night trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. For about $2,000 you get round trip air, nice accommodations, all meals except two dinners, a couple of canoe trips, tours of Yellowstone, etc. It's worth a look. You have to be 55 or older, so you might have to wait a few years. :D

Glad to see you signed up after all. I am sure you will enjoy the experience. Is this the August trip?

Yes. August 28. It was a tough decision, but I figure I deserve it. (Don't I?)

I can get by the age factor, but the finances have me stayin' in the hills. Sure you'll have a grand time.

You will have a great time. I went to Grand Teton and Yellowstone last year for a week and a half, and it still wasn't enough time to see everything that I wanted to. The price with all you say it includes is a real bargain. Take lots of memory cards with you. I came back with over 3,000 photos.

That's all? What happened? Did your camera break? :D

I almost dread going through the thousands of images I know I'll be bringing back, but it will give me something to do. It will also give me a good excuse not to do what I don't want to do anyway. :D

Ran out of daylight most times, and there were wildfires in and outside of GT and Ystone and in Idaho as well, dumping a lot of smoke in both parks. I took my laptop with me, and downloaded each night, cleaned up the photos and got rid of ones that I didn't like. That helped cut down on what I had to do when I got home.

I'm getting an Acer netbook. I'll back up to that and an external drive.

Sounds like you are "good to go" then. When is your trip?

Everything included in one price is what persuaded me to sign on.

Oh, yea, I forgot to mention that I cannot believe that price. I am seriously considering this, assuming curmudgeons are allowed.

I understand completely. I had my trip planned 8 months ahead of time. Was also there that time of year. It will be warm during the day and cool at night. Hopefully there will not be a wildfire season like last year, and you won't have days when you can't even see the hills. Have a great time, and I am looking forward to seeing your posts from that trip.

Virgil Loc: The Hoosier State

Hi Jerry. You'll love it. Been there over 2 dozen times from the Hoosier state - starting about 1950. Wish I were a little closer. Take a tripod if you can and closer to departure date make sure you keep in touch with MT Shooter. He goes into Yellowstone quite often I think, so he could provide you with any necessary current info.
