Nudibranchs

These nudibranchs are significantly smaller than your little fingernail. The white "horns" are rhinophores. They use them to smell their environment. The red "horns" are their gills. Nudibranchs are unique in having external gills. These were taken at the Blue Heron Bridge in Florida. Nikon D90, 1/200, f29, supplemental flash.

Nudibranchs are the most beautiful, colorful, and diverse group of organisms. Nice capture.

Good looking nudi, I've shot them in Philippines, Indonesia, and other Pacific islands, but only found lettuce slugs in Caribbean . Do your have other nudis in your part of Florida ? Have you posted them at www.nudipixel.net

Here are just a few from the Philippines, they are one of my favorite Critters to photograph. I use both 110mm and 60mm with a +10 Subsee magnifier

Nice! I saw the blue one in Indonesia, I think. I'm also looking into the SubSee +10 diopter. I have the Nikon 60 mm macro, but I'd love to get closer.

It's a bit of a challenge to get use to the Subsee +10, you have to get within about an inch of your subject to focus, so great fo nudis, but a real bitch if something is moving. I use a rocking back and forth motion to bring the camera to the subject and capture the image.

there are numerous spicies of nudibranchs in Fl and the off islands south and east of fl.I spent over30 yrs as a diver and collector of marine life in the waters of that part of the world.Biscayne bay at one time a large variety of nudibranchs and anemias that were kept in aquaria.the lower forms of ocean life are the most interesting to keep and photograph aquariums becaause of there color.
