I have a nikkor 80-200mm that was given to me by son a few years ago. This is a great lens but it is very heavy,is there any attachment i can get when i use it on my tripod? I don't like putting the weight on my camera body. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for any advice . The lens has a sleeve on it for zooming.

If you look at most telephoto lenses they have a tripod foot on them. If your lens doesn't have this your should be able to order one for your lens specificly and then mount the foot to the tripod and your camera will be supported by the the lens, not the lens by the camera mounted on the tripod. Hope this helps.

Thanks GregoryD. I tried one of the rings you suggested. I couldn't zoom it with the ring attached. I got the ring on ebay it came from China it didn't seem like a good solution. i may not have used it right.

Sounds like you have the older "trombone" zoom model one like mine. Good idea as it is a heavy lens but I've never seen an adapter for that model. Hope someone else has!

Try this. I got one to use for an Opteka 500mm which had a faulty tripod attachment. Works well, and should fit any lens.

Also you don't want that big ole honker of a lens hanging on the end of your camera, without added support.

I have you covered, my man - I have a Kirk 80-200 2.8 tripod bracket made especially for the Nikon lens. I had the 80-200 but traded it in for the 70-200 but kept the Kirk bracket.
Google the Kirk bracket and see if it is not what you are asking for. PM me back

Yes, it is indeed a great lens. If you think you would want this one, I will let you have it for $50. It is like new. I have no further need for it and have just had it laying on a shelf for about six years. It is the first model of this bracket that Kirk had out. I bought it in 1998 and all of my stuff is kept in great shape.
