NIK....do i really need it

I have been reading a lot on UHH touting the virtues of NIK and the special pricing and free upgrade. I already use PSE 11....so, is there any need for adding NIK software?

Don, some people need to manipulate their photos a LOT. Others not so much. It doesn't have anything to do whether the photo is good or not. For some NIK gives them a little more tweaking power to what they see as perfection. It's all good. Only YOU can decide if you need a little more PP power.
For me, I would say no, but no harm done if your into PP.

One of these days I'll learn to make sure I'm uploading the right files the first time. :oops: The pic on the bottom is the before copy. I normally don't do a whole lot of manipulating in P.P., but it is kind of cool to play with.

For NIK and other add-ons, Do you need them, Both Yes and No. Depends on how much post-processing you do and what your thoughts are on manipulation of a picture. Me I use them regularly, help make the picture pop

I agree with mborn. Maybe yes, maybe no. Depends upon you. Since I already owned Viveza, I took Google up on their offer and downloaded the whole suite. When appropriate, I use Viveza as launched out of LR, PSE or PS. It is very good at what it does: manipulating select areas. It can give a result different than PS and that can be good. It is a lot faster than the other editors and does give you a lot of fine control but you can accomplish all of that in PS or PSE. Overall, it is a keeper.
That being said, I have played around with the other programs. Most of them have presets that range from improvements to the bizarre and gimmicky, what I call most of those special effects that others call artistic. When I have the time, I will explore them again to see how they fit into my workflow just as Viveza does.

Myer, thanks for the info. For Viveza, I do not duplicate the layer because Viveza makes a new one automatically. If you make a smart layer, you cannot use the brush. I will have to learn Color Efex.
I noticed the vignetting but thought it was a little too much. I use it extensively but keep it to about -10. More subtle but still effective.
