To soften light a bit more, consider adding more diffusion to your illumination source. Do we have a photo of your set-up?
it is weevil looking,i think i like #3 best.tom
Thanks Douglass I have sent pic to Bugguide. I will add more diffusion to Flash. Would it have a similar effect if I detatch the flash and move it back if I am indoor?
No pic of set up yet, still waiting for new Sony lenses and tubes
Am using 35 year old Minolta lens now.
PS will Bugguide be able to help with Australian bugs ?
Thanks Yvonne
Thanks Tom, Just curious, but how many shots would you discard shooting a jumper or bug? I am getting about 1 out of 10, is that usual?

Bug Guide has contributing members world-wide, even Down Under.

Several of us are finding that a wider, closer diffused light source improves capture resolution. Moving speedlight away from subject will not match heavier diffusion.
Thanks Douglass , I will keep working on the lighting.

Nothing wrong with 35 year old lens I would put my 1970's Lester A Dine up against most new ones.
Hi Tim, I agree , I have several older Minolta lenses and use them often
