Hi,

I'm attempting to take flash pics in total darkness. I have Nikon D80. How do I force camera to "take picture" even though there is nothing to reference? I have tried several different settings, to no avail. It must be simple..I just don't yet have the chops! I appreciate your help!

I'm surprised no one has replied to your post. Are you using the built in flash or an external? Most DSLR's have a focus assist setting for both internal and external flash's. The only problem with that is you have to be in range for your camera to lock on to the subject with. The other thing you might try is full manual mode and experiment with apertuer and flash.

set to manual focus. in total darkness auto focus has nothing to lock onto and camera wont fire.
