An interesting insight on hobbyist vs. pro
Being one who made the decision to start a business selling my images, I usually read the UHH threads and comments regarding the differences between amateur and pro photographers, how do I start a photography business, etc. with a great deal of interest. Recently, a friend of mine from my camera club sent me an email with the following link. After reading it I was pretty amazed at how accurately it mirrors much of my experience this past year, and am very interested in hearing the comments of my fellow Hedgehogs. For those who, like myself, are attempting to make some money (or a living) from your photography, do you think this is accurate from your experience? For those of you who consider yourself hobbyists, but may have considered a foray into starting a photography business, how does this influence your thinking about your decision?

Fortunately my hobby started as an interest at 12 and is now a paying hobby, I don't see it as "work", I love photography, it is a bonus that it pays, as I still do FREE work for charities when asked
There is a certain security in being a hobbyist. Many pros may loose money. As a hobby with good equipment,I can be assured that I will loose lots of it.
Another word for hobbyist is undiscovered, like any artist you need to find people that like/love your work ENOUGH to pay $$$$ for it. Leonardo Deviance only got paid a few dollars for the sixteen chapel? was he a pro or hobbyist? I love photography I enjoy can I make a living from it? than it's work everything I shoot has to be perfect! and even the greatest artist produce lemons once in a while. Bottom line I a hobbyist if you like my work buy it if not don't
doesn't make a difference if I'm pro or not. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I think the definition of a pro is making people see what they see but don't notice. I think this defines all types of art...if a 100 people like your work and 50 don't are you a pro?
