One comparable disaster that happened during my life and that I was near was an earthquake we had here in the East Bay in which two freeways, one atop the other, collapse and killed something like 40 people in the ensuing concrete sandwich. . It took a while to get the cars and people out of the squashed mess, and the neighborhood smelled for days of rotting corpses.

Another was the great fire we had, which burned several thousand homes. In the middle of the day the sky was light night, and ashes were falling out of the sky. When we were able to get back into the area three or four days later, it looked as though an atomic bomb had been dropped. All the hillsides were black, with chimneys sticking our here and there, and the "corpses" of burned cars parked at the side of the road.

I lived in Riverside, Ca. at the time of that Earthquake, when I saw it on TV and saw the sandwiched freeway I noticed it was rush hour and I thought there would be bumper to bumper traffic at that time of day but it was during the World Series and many people weren't in the traffic that would have normally been there. My first Earthquake was the Sylmar quake and is still the strongest one I've ever felt. I was still there when the one collapsed the freeway near Magic Mountain and the motorcycle cop rode off the end of the freeway into the rubble below.

During our earthquake that I described below, there were eople driving across the Bay Bridge. A Tongan lady who saw the bridge open up on front of her and who may have seen too many adventure movies decided she could step on the gas and go sailing from one piece of freeway, over the great void, and onto the next piece of freeway. It didn't work. She was the only person on the Bay Bridge to die in the earthquake.

I think I remember someone stopped on the freeway taking a video of that, I wondered at the time if the distraction of the stopped car might have kept her from seeing the lack of road until too late. I found some news coverage of the quake at this link.

Only because you either listened to Obama's media demonize him and not look for the truth, or you like living under government control and false sense of security.

You said a mouth full. Agreed!

You are so right that Romney would have been a disaster. These folks don't seem to realize that corporations are slowly and surely getting a stranglehold over America. While they are looking at government and complaining about control, they should be looking at corporations who manipulate us every day of our lives.

You can say Romney would be a disaster, but the fact is, that is YOUR opinion. You have no way of knowing what would have happened if he would have won. I think the U.S. would be much more financially secure as Romney has what Obama doesn't, EXPERIENCE WITH FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. OBAMA DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE in regards to money. He has never owned or ran a business. Oh wait....he hasn't even really had a job.

You know, BigBear, you have a very strong tendency to make overgeneralizations and sweeping statements about things you know nothing about. You will say "you like government control over everything you do," yet you haven't examined everything he does because you don't even know him. Clean up your attempts at logic so people have a chance of having a reasonable dialog with you.

richard, by looking at ALL of your conversations, You need to take yourself out of the conversations. You are obviously a hard-core Obama fan. And NOTHING anyone has said that doesn't agree with Obama do you accept. You tell others that they are wrong, but you haven't backed up and looked at anything objectively.

Your biases are blatant. Richard has given substantial support for much of what he has said, yet you condemn him for not backing up anything he says. On the other hand, you praised the hell out of post by BigBear which is absolutely nothing but decapitated judgements.

Of course, Penny, you wouldn't want to hear any facts that disagree with your opinions. I don't think you have backed up anything -- at least not that I have noticed -- since I have been reading these conversations.
