There must be a way to incorporate this technology into the building of cameras...HELLO SPORTS SHOOTERS...PHOTOJOURNALIST...and all other intrepid image capturing fools...standing in the rain...click, click click....
Does anyone know anything about this. If you have a connection to Canon, Nikon, etc. could you ask them to look at it. Often the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing...miracles can happen with a handshake...
PLEASE view this video...

Definitely neat stuff, but according to the website it needs recoating every few months to a year depending on usage and environment. Also, it's translucent white, not transparent, so it's not suitable for lenses (dagnab it). But, who knows what improvements tomorrow will bring. Thanks for sharing!

I can see this nano tech leading to fully waterproof cameras...sans underwater housings...OH MY...i.e., built into the outer materials of the cameras and permanent...

Not really thinking about dive gear... I'm thinking this technology could be incorporated into all bodies and lenses so just about everything runs/bounces off. Then with good sealing around lens, viewfinder, etc., one would have a fairly bulletproof camera...just something to think about and a technology to watch...

MIT developed a hydrophobic nanoparticle coating in 2005 for glass that totally eliminates fogging. One of the stated uses was for camera lenses. They also have developed a number of superoleophobic coatings. The research was funded by DARPA so you know who is using the technology and why it isn't widely used.

Re: DARPA...that tells me everything I need to know...thank you...I would predict we'll see the waterproof camera.........someday..........
