Hi all Anyone have tried Nikon 80-200 F2.8 AFS not D version with D800??

Nikon 80-200 F2.8 AFS is old model where 70-200 VR replacement, however 80-200 AFS have no VR but I wont bother with VR as I will use tripod for landscape work, so anyone have tried?

I know this does not specifically answer your question, but I just used this lens without issue on a D7100 at an Air Show yesterday. When this lens was introduced it was part of the Nikon Professional lens group and the ED glass was considered cutting edge technology.

The first question I have for you, is do you already have the 80-200 lens, or are you looking to purchase one? Secondly, a little clarification. The last non-D lens of this type was the AF 80-200 f2.8 produced between 1987-1992. The AF-S version of the lens was produced between 1998-2003 and was a D. I purchased the D model in 2006 and used it on my D200, D90 until I moved up to the D600 last year, when I traded it in for a AF-S 70-200 f2.8 G VRII.

I did use the 80-200 on a three week photo safari to southern Africa last year on the D600 and the results very very good, so I think you will get good results on the D800.
