Sigma Lens Auto Focus Not Working

Yesterday I went to the zoo and for some reason my Sigma 150-500 would not auto focus on my D4 or my D600. It worked fine the as recently as a week before. Has anyone ever experienced this? Any thoughts on how to trouble shoot? I did try other lenses on my camera bodies and the auto focus worked fine so I'm pretty sure the problem lies with the lens. I've sent a message to Sigma. Thanks

Any suggestions for the best way to clean the contacts? Should I attempt myself or send it in?

Hi, I would not send a message to Sigma. I would call them and then they will direct you to heir sight to locate the repair order forms and what you should do to get it fixed. Depending on what is wrong, I have a 70-300mm and mine had a similar problem. Followed their procedures and sent to them got it back 6 days later. Works great. Good Luck

Thanks sportyman140, I'll give that a try particularly since they haven't responded to my email yet!

Try using CRC contact Cleaner with a Q-tip to clean the contacts. I do my camera and lenses one a month. You would be surprised at the amount of dirt that accumulates on the contacts.

BTW Sigma repair is great and fast I sent a TC in that was broken and had it back in three days

I do mine two ways:

1) Dampen a Q-Tip in alcohol. Not soaking wet.

2) Use an Ink pen eraser. The ones that are white with fine grit.
Rub the ink eraser lightly till the contacts are clean and shiny.

I am noticing that 9 times out of ten it won't auto focus at all. It tends to look like a blurry mess. I put it in manual focus & no problem. I thought at first it was caused by too many objects in front & behind the subject, but when I tried it today on a subject with no distractions; same thing, just a blur.

Mine did the same thing. Quit working on my D-7000. So far not fixed. I so wish I could get that 6 day turn round that everyone talks about. They have had mine way to long. I hope to get it back this week. They say it was shipped last wed. So far no lens.

I'm sorry to hear about that, I do feel your pain.

I have a Sigma 170-500mm that has the aperture is stuck at about 5.6. Don't know if the lens is worth sending it out to get fixed.
