Hello, all -- I'm doing a photoshoot in the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge late in April and I'm looking for recommendations on other places to shoot nearby as well as for some restaurant recommendations. Many thanks for any help you can give.

Sorry, I do not have any info re the Wildlife Refuge, but my wife and I recently visited Savannah and I have some wonderful shots of the historic center of town. A wonderful place to kick back and relax!

Oops, forgot the restaurants. . . . in downtown Savannah, two places we had a great time and wonderful food were the Moon River Brewing Company and the Six Pence Pub. Both were crowded and reservations were necessary.

Thanks, Frank. I'm sure after a long day of shooting a pub would be in order.

Forsyth Park, anywhere but around the fountain as that is the most photographed spot. The rest of the park is pretty cool yet rarely photographed. Any one of the 22 squares are great places too. McDonough's is a nice place to eat, Molly McPherson's, Dockside on River Street, Green Truck on Habersham......I'll try to think of some more...Firefly Cafe is good, they are also on Habersham next to Troup Square. That is a pretty cool looking square too. If you want to do the touristy thing and perhaps have a heart attack when your cholesterol kicks it into high gear go to Lady and Sons. I do not recommend it. Mrs. Wilkes is MUCH better. PM me and I will give you more as I think of them. Bring lots of bug spray as this time of year the gnats will eat your scalp alive.

Fort Pulaski is a well-preserved Civil War fort East of town... If you are interested in that sort of thing, its got a lot of history. Photo op: Look for the alligators in the moat that surrounds the fort...

If you are staying out side town, I'd recommend Sam Snead's for dinner. Otherwise, in town, there are many good and fun places, as others have said. Enjoy!

Tybee Island is a short drive away and has a great old lighthouse and fort. Worth the trip. The Pink House is one of Savannah's best restaurants. It also has a great piano bar downstairs.

Agree regarding Lady and Sons. We went there for lunch and discovered what other told us . . . .. overrated.

Thanks. My wife and I have already agreed that Lady and Sons is too "touristy" for us - we like local, Mom & Pop places if we can find them.

Hi, My name is Roger and I live in Savannah. I have a small exhibit (12 prints) at Moon River on the corner of Whitaker and Bay St. I am there almost every day between 5 and 6 pm. If you don't have time to chat or stay in Savannah for a few days, I recommend the following: Bonaventure Cemetery, River St., Jones St., Forsyth Park and side streets off the park. The park is bordered by Drayton and Whitaker. Bull St. runs from north to south and will take you directly to the park. This is also a great street to walk. Good luck with your trip. My email address

Roger... and Jtceec..Laurel Grove Cemetery North is lovely as well. Greenwich is one cemetary down from Bonaventure and has a beautiful little lake with a bridge. Most people do not know about that as they tend to go to Bonaventure instead. I personally would skip Tybee Beach, except for the lighthouse. The beach itself is just horrid. The reason for that is the Savannah River dumps right into it. BLECH. Effingham County toward Springfield has an old German site, where the Salzburgers settled called Ebenezer...it is pretty this time of year.

Everything downtown caters to tourists. Larry's on Skidaway Road looks like a hole in the wall but they have the best breakfast...I would suggest lunch in Thunderbolt, Whitemarsh, or Wilmington Island, but stay away from Uncle Bubba's...he is Paula Deen's brother and the place is another overrated heart attack waiting to happen.

Thanks to all for the input -- no doubt we'll be trying several of your recommendations.
