I just purchased a new Canon and it came with the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III. It does not indicate USM on the lens or the box. I already have the same lens , purchased used that does indicate ultrasonic on the lens. I am a beginner and would like to know which to keep and which to sell?
Whyfret1, what does the other lens show for the f-stop range? If the same try and see if you can determine which has the sharpest image.

Yes! I forgot to include that, thanks. I appreciate your advice.

There are two models of 75-300mm zoom lens in the current Canon lineup. One has USM focusing, one does not. They both have an aperture range of f/4 to f/5.6. They both have a "III" in their name. One also has USM in it's name. If none of the documentation you got with it has "USM" on it, your lens is the non-USM lens.
The USM lens retails for about $40US more than the NON-USM.
