Any interest in an inexpensive entry to Large Format 4x5 film photography

Let me say at the outset that I am going to link to a Kickstarter project on this link.
I have no financial interest in this endeavor. I have been shooting Large Format for years.
I know there is a contingent of people who actually believe that film is dead. Please pass on this post, as those of us who are still shooting film are having way too much fun without your mistaken opinions.

Now, to the project. If you have considered the possibility of having a large format camera and shooting BIG negs that blow even FF image captures out of the water, here is a very low priced entry point for testing your interests. This camera will do, in terms of pure image capture basically what any high prices large format camera will do.

If this needs to be moved to the Classifieds, I trust that will be done, or I will place it there. This is not a project that I profit from. In fact, I pledged to buy two of the camera's myself, because of the price and simplicity of having a light, packable large format solution.

For those who wonder, or have wondered about, participation in Large Format film, let me say that I have no qualms about the availability of large format film and equipment. In fact there are more film emulsions currently being made and available for large format than medium format.

The KickStarter program is a very interesting means of raising capital in order to start a business enterprise. When the goal is reached by pledges, the product (in this case cameras) goes into final production. The sales take place through Amazon. No money pledged will be accepted until the goal is reached.

This kickstarter program has reached 2/3 of the final goal in one week... with 420 pledges. All the details, are on the link:

Again, naysayers are as welcome as those with actual interest. Who knows... you may discover the real thrill of another form of photography....Film, but in a different context than you have experienced previously.

I am also posting this based on my assumption that UHH is not exclusively a digital photography site, and that film shooters visit and ask questions. It would be a shame if UHH did not allow film users the same opportunity as digital, since it has become evident in the market place that film, while it will not replace digital, is enjoying somewhat of a resurgence. Some, perhaps many, digital users, who have enjoyed film, or never shot film, are frustrated with some aspects of digital and testing film as an option. I don't need to list the frustrations of digital. Just look at some of the many posts each day... today... yesterday... and throughout the recent past.

Large format is an excellent "go slow and learn" alternative, offering some spectacular results.

I am going to post a friends web site now, which is almost exclusively large format photography.

Again, not my images, and I have no financial interest. Just an example of a photographer committed to what can be done with large format film.

Very interesting. My late friend Kerry and I brainstorming several years ago came up wit the idea of making 8 x 10 glass photography supplies available, and plans or kitset cameras. along the same lines as the black powder firearm movement. Slow, awkward, problematic, and the retro shooters love it. Thought camera folk might like to try the same. We never went anywhere with the idea though. I wish them luck. Andrew
