Hello,

Does anyone have a suggestion on a viewfinder magnifier? My eyesight sucks and I need a magnifier. I'm on a budget so I'm looking for value. Oh I use a Canon 50D.

Assuming you actually are talking about the viewfinder:

I'm not aware of any good solution for the entire viewfinder frame other than the angle finder

they are all the same, cheap or expensive but they all have the same drawback...you get SOME magnification at the expense of losing some of the "view" in the viewfinder.

I have horrible eyesight and I found that getting a camera with a bigger viewfinder (5DII) was the answer.

Well, I don't have that option...just the magnifier will do.

The sun is so bright in the field, that after macro or landscape image capture, I use my HoodLoupe to check for critical focus, proper exposure, composure, etc. I wear it around my neck when I have camera in hand. The HoodLoupe is 3x mag, with adjustable eyepiece for focusing on LCD screen dot pattern.

Hey thanks Nikonian72. Do feel that magnifying your LCD screen is accurate enough for you?

I often increase the magnification of my LCD image by pressing the "+" button on back of camera. This works for evaluating just-captured photographs, and for critical focusing with extremely long lenses on tripod, such as the moon, and small subjects at distance.

I made mine out of an old, good-quality slide viewer -- just sawed off all beyond the slot.

Have you tried to adjust the diopter wheel at all? This may help. Also (requires a tripod) if you set the camera to 'Live View' so that you are using the LCD rather than the view finder you can zoom in to x10 and fine tune your focusing. Not a great strategy for sports I guess but I find it very useful for landscapes. And both of these features are incorporated in your camera body so no cash required :-)

Hi Jane,

I adjusted the diopter. The problem is that I wear bi-focals, which I can't stand.

Same here. I adjusted my HoodLoupe eyepiece to compensate.
