An interview with wowbmw

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Still a student. Everyday I learn something new. The photographers on this forum inspire and teach me everyday.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
That is an easy question. My granddaughter was in the zone and so was I.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Went to the church Easter Egg hunt with the mission to capture the light and the moment. Used my Canon Mark lll and 70-200 4-5.6L.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Many relatives were asking the children to move into the sun just when I had positioned her with the best light (no small task). I just smiled and thought there would be another opportunity. There was..

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
No time to even consider alternatives.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

An interview with dickerst

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I was always around people in my family who where into Photography. My Uncle worked for Kodak and studied under Ansel Adams, I was always impressed with his work. When I was stationed in the Army in Germany and wanted something to do so I bought a Minolta SRT101 from the BX and at the USO there was a photographer who worked for National Geographic, he was a big influence in keeping my interest. For about 20 years I got out of it and have, in the last 5 or so years, got the bug again.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training, I try and learn something from everyone I have shot pictures with.
I like landscapes, I love old architecture and have recently gotten into nature.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The black and white part of the picture was taken in the 70's at Santa Barbara Mission. I was "reclaiming" some old negatives and thought it would look good with a dramatic background so when the contest came up I went out and took a sky shot and layered it into the B&W.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
On the B&W I shot the statue with a Pentax K-1000, 55mm, F/1.4 lens, the background was shot with a Canon 7D, 17-55mm, F/2.8. Processed the pictures in Photoshop.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Not really, I wanted a B&W image with a dramatic background. My editing skills need to improve.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I will always have a camera with me, but I am also into classic cars.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I post some of my stuff on my facebook page.

An interview with Gifted One

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I remember from earliest childhood being fascinated with the photo process. I briefly had an Argus C3 35mm camera. I wanted to be a war photographer in Nam. God protected me. Many that I grew up with gave their lives to protect my freedom. I am nearly 70 years old. I shot Canon ftbs (35mm) for while and then my art went away. I have had bad eye sight. I shoot with my left eye and my right is still dominate. A couple of years ago I bought a really inexpensive point and shoot. It worked. I could use it. A wonderful friend has given me some wonderful gear. I look like a field rep for Canon. I am still light on some stuff. I need a more stable shooting platform. I am using a 35 year old but it works. I would like a longer lens for critters – coming! I had a great break in shooting so I thank God for this ability to return to my Love. I don’t have a computer to do Post so am looking forward to that!

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have not had any formal training as such. I love to read and to observe. As a child National Geographic, Look magazine were bench marks. I was in the fashion industry for 20 years. I have always been a marketer. We had a pro that worked a our local college. He would always look at my work and critic it. He gave me great council. Suggested to learn to work quick shoot fast and stay safe. Like a war correspondent! He encouraged me to embrace fine art again to re-center photograph. I continue to look at old and emerging talent to give me energy.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I live in a bedroom community on the edge of my town. I love my home. It is a light airy place. I have many places to go at any point in the day. In the mornings I love to have coffee and have a spiritual time. That morning I went to my deck to be embraced by what is know as a Jacobs Ladder, (Google or Wika for more info.) I ran and grabbed my camera and got a few captures. Weather was moving fast.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I believe that I used a Canon 60D 18-135 UV always on, hand held. Nothing special.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I am so glad that you asked that. I would like to have at my disposal the following. Really Right stuff tripod and ball head and L plated, from Canon 1Dx support wide fast lens. I and really learning from the YOU GUYS. No to be honest, I feel very good about it. I always have a kit ready to go and pod in truck. If I had got my pod perhaps I would not have had the shoot.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
You know that as things wind down in my life it is all just about the way it should be. I love to teach, it was always a part of the marketing thing. I am devoted follower of the creator of lights. It is hard to keep track of my images with not having proper computer or soft ware. I would still like to go to war zone to train Chaplains. My wife is younger and still working so – who knows. She is of great encouragement to me!

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Again I wish that I had a site on internet. I have some things at Pocatello Art Gallery for a month.
