Curious: Canon 24-105 f/4 L ?

I might be looking to buy a Canon 24-105 f/4 L but don't know yet. I was told there's some vinetting in the corners at 24mm. I was wondering if anyone out there has one, and if so, how do you like it?
I'm hoping I can pick up a good used one, but am not sure as the prices I've seen seem to rival buying them brand new (so if I'm going to pay that much, I might as well get a new one).

A tiny bit, easily correctable. I used a rental on a vacation in the West last summer. It's a very decent lens, especially for the money, and when included in a kit with the 6D is the bargain of the century. I think both of the shots I've posted here recently are from the 24-105. Check my 'started' threads.

I can't answer your question about the vinetting but I know that this is a kit lens included in many of the higher end Canon cameras and a lot of people don't want them so they sell them before they ever touch them. To me this 'is' brand new and is worth about a $200 savings. Just thought I'd chime in but of course you can do what you think is best.

I own both the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM and the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens. Both are very capable L-lenses, and provide good IQ. Vignetting is easily correctable with PP, but sometimes lends a pleasing effect. I will often add a vignette in PSE10 to better isolate the subject. Number one choice? The 24-105mm for an everyday walk around lens. For my travel photography I use it 95% of the time. For wildlife my EF 400mm f/5.6L USM is the go-to lens. The EF 17-40mm f/4L USM is also a GREAT value L-lens.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. That's what I'm hoping for.

I have the 24-105mm L on my 7D as my walk around lens. I haven't experienced any vignetting. I love this lens and would buy it again if something happened to the one I have. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

I have this lens and think it is excellent, not quite as wide as one would like on a cropped sensor but really comes into it's own on a full frame. I have noticed that the price of this lens has come down quite a bit in the last year so buying new is a really good deal. Good luck.

I used mine exclusively during a trip to Italy in October last year. The only time that it comes off of my 5D II is when I switch to a 20 mm 2.8.

The Canon 24-105L lens can hardly be described as a "kit lens" in the context that we normally refer to the cheap lenses that are included with many DSLR's. Yes, it can be purchased as a kit on some cameras such as the EOS 5D Mark III, but it is a high quality lens that carries a cost of about $1200. I have used this lens for about 3 years and would not part with it. I have not noticed any vignetting on my EOS 50D but I would assume that it could happen on a full frame Canon.

As for me, and due to the importance of the lens being a good one and able to send it back quickly if it is not, I deal with Amazon.com. Everyone has there own store, but when it is important, Amazon.

I have owned on for years and it is on my 7D most of the time. It is a great lens and I have not found any defects. It is sharp and you will be very pleased to have one.
