Got a call this morning from a very fast talking individual whose first language was clearly not English telling me that he was from the "Windows Company" and they had detected serious errors and problems with my computer. I asked him what kind and he was very concerned because they were registration errors, unconnected files and the like. But not to worry because they the "Windows Company" felt an obligation to fix them for me at no cost. I asked him what the MAC address of the computer was that was sending out all of these alarming errors and he told me that they couldn't tell just yet as they were receiving them over the internet!

Told him he and his company were in violation of the Indiana do-not-call list but he assured me that it was all right because:

1. He was in the Virgin Islands, not India and
2. He was calling using the "internet protocall" (can you spell SKYPE?).

Told him not interested. He started into another high speed spiel but I referred him to my dial tone.

Clearly this call was designed to scare the heck out of a person and rush them into an unwise decision. The clowns just keep coming

I also received a call like that. The man blabbed on in very poor English-ish about my Mac computer, which I don't have, and after trying futilely to get something understandable out of him I hung up on him.

I just got a call "about your credit card" (recorded). I'll never know what it was about because as soon as I heard that I hung up. It never stops. Recently I got a text on my cell from "Alexia" who wanted to know if I wanted to chat! Cost me 30 minutes and I never even replied!

You can usually tell its a scam as when you answer there is a long pause before they start talking , plenty of time to hang up.

There's always a long pause when I answer because I don't say "hello", I say our last name and it always confuses people. The robo calls get totally confused and it doesn't set them off. A friend of mine never answers the phone and says her friends all know and will leave a msg. so she calls them back. Too bad we've come to that.

Whenever I pick up the phone, if I don't hear a voice for more than 1 second, I hang up. And I never answer any call ID'd as "private caller".

I love those calls! I get the person talking and talking, I have a cup of coffee while the conversation is going on. I prolong the conversation and after some time I say I am not interested.

They never call back. Sometimes I'm lucky and I get a number to call them back, and I will call them back. Hell, I'm retired and it kills some time and I get a sense of satisfaction in wasting their time!

I had a call from a lad in Scotland and I kept the conversation going, (as I had read some where to do that so their bill goes up) asked about the weather up there and was on the phone for about 10 mins. At the end the lad said thanks to me as most just put the phone down and as he had just started the job was pleased that there were some nice people out there. Made me feel a bit bad, but not for long.

Yes, I am on the National Do Not Call listing. Yes, I have received as high as 7 unsolicited calls per day for over a week. And yes, I now have my phone rigged with the same tone as the 'disconnected number' series of tones, right before the answering device tells you to leave a message. Stopped the unsolicited calls dead in their tracks.

Had to explain to family and friends why I was having to put the tone in, and we do have 'caller ID' so if we recognize the name or number, we will answer before the tone.

Most of these unsolicited calls are 'robo calls' in that a computer is being used to auto-dial. Simply not answering your phone does not help, you stay on the numerous phone lists because the computer recognizes that it is a valid number. Adding the tone(s) seem to be the best solution.

One interesting note to all of you..... iYogi computer Technical Support is behind many of the calls that come in from India (via numerous US area codes). I threatened them, in writing, with legal action and sent a cc: to my lawyer. There calls stopped immediately. They were calling here as high as twice a day, themselves. For info, I spent over 45 years in computer service (main frames to micros), why would I pay iYogi for Tech Support?

Use to have ttis problem. Asked to be removed from caller list numerous times ,to no avail. BECAME TIME TO TAKE THIS ANNOYANCE INTO MY OWN HANDS. Went to a local hardware store and bought a small hand held air horn. No more calls after a shot of that in the phone. Best 6 dollars I ever spent
